photos, ideas in colour, black and white.

Different types of photographic purpose exist, the conceptual photo project fulfilling a creative task, being part an experiment, training the eye, the vision of the perfect image, teaching a certain technique… On the other hand photos are taken as memories, to hold on to a certain moment; often both purposes unite in one single photo that expresses everything.

The photographic series in this section once followed a task, technical or creative and soon became more than that, became snapshots of my ideas and the roads i walked.

lichtgestalten, light figures. The idea took off as a creative university project asking for the “dark side of life”. Civilisation with all its artificial lights has made it almost impossible to discover a dark side within. However, all those neon lights show best the contrast to what really is darkness. An experimental approach to catching that contrast documents a night-time safari on the tracks of civilisation.

the power of structures, how we learn to see good from bad. Colour deceives structural weakness, just because it is colour and the human eye takes the bait of attraction and stimulation. Now black and white doesn’t forgive weakness. Only by recognising the unusual, the outstanding in the blandness of the ordinary, and by banning it in that one picture, can you create the same magic attraction, with not a dot of colour.

an english boy, there's more to a person than black and white. The English Boy served the purpose of learning to take silhouette photography without a single shade of grey. Nevertheless it’s a memory of an old bike painted black, the perfect model and a creative yet professional session in the breathtaking surroundings of an Art Nouveau villa on the lakeside.
