Assholes finish first, really, absolutely always. American lad Tucker Max likes to brag, about women, sex, alcohol, drugs… and who better to brag to than the rest of the world. Having made his name by blogging about his outrageous escapades, Assholes finish first is his second collection of blog entries. For the British market, the cover was to instantaneously communicate the origin and nature of the tales within. The "provocative" design displays typography resembling that on a football jersey and made up of alcohol, cigarettes, and handcuffs.
Spills and spin, blacker than black. The devastating oil catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico wasn't half under control, and journalist and oil industry expert Tom Bergin penned down his insights and commentary on its origins, developments and consequences. The book targeted a youngish educated audience, which was to be attracted through an illustrative, typographic or otherwise symbolic design.
Nancy Friday, a woman in lust. In her series of books, self-proclaimed sexual psychologist Nancy Friday has collected, analysed and collated sexual and erotic phantasies of American adults. Whilst undeniable communicating the explicit nature of the their content, the books' covers had to be appropriate for a non-pornographic bookshelf section. Studying the previous edition covers displaying straight forward nudes and thus highlighting the "naughty" subject matter, my visual concept was for a return of the allure in sexuality, the graphical beauty of body shape, and the artistic quality of the female form.
